Misty Drew

I was born and raised in West Sacramento. I am my mom’s only child, and my dad’s middle girl. I have 2 sister’s, Johnnae and Michelle, and a pretty big extended family. I am a River City High School graduate-Class of 1999! For over 10 years, I have worked in self storage as a property manager. I was excited right after Thanksgiving in 2018, when I was offered the resident manager position at West Sacramento Self Storage! I love my job, and now work for a great company! Living and working in the same place definitely has its perks, but it does feel like I’m always at work. With my gram’s house practically around the corner, and much of my family still living in West Sac, I usually don’t get very far from home. When I’m not working, I’m usually out around the Port with my Roxy girl….my 2 year old pit bull/dingo mix.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
It’s me and my “pingo” Roxy! On my dads side of my family, our family goes back about 4 generations living in West Sacramento. My great grandparents moved here in the early 1940’s. My gram told me stories of how her and her siblings slept in a tent on the property her parents bought on Tower Street, while my great grandpa built their house. My gram was 1 of 7 kids. When my gram and grandpa married and finally bought a home…. they stayed in West Sac, buying their home 50 years ago on Virginia Ave. My dad and uncle now own and live in that house.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
For over 10 years, I’ve worked as a property manager for self storage. I love my job! Even though the job is repetitive in a way, something new happens all the time! When you think about it, 90% of the time my customers are coming to me in the midst of something major going on in their life…. having to move, getting married or a divorce, a relative may have passed away, and they need somewhere to put their loved ones things, lost their job, etc. Many customers are usually pretty stressed out by the time they get to me, so if I can make renting quick and easy, and put a smile on my customers face…. if I can make my customers day even a little better…. then I know I’m doing my job right.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Streets of London, Whitey’s, and Sal’s Taco

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I was born and raised here….. so that makes 40 years now.

I’ve met all kinds of interesting people over the years. But someone who stands out, I first met when I was a teenager, and he was trying to get a youth center started. He is Don Bosley (today he works for the Mercy Coalition helping homeless in our city).

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I’ve never been big on traveling, but I wouldn’t mind going to New York, and visit the 9/11 memorial and the Statue of Liberty.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
One of my all time favorite movies: Eddie and The Cruisers (the soundtrack is amazing!)
