Jose Garcia

Let me introduce to you Jose Garcia. Jose is a teacher with deep roots in West Sacramento. Jose and I got to know each other because we both want to make West Sacramento clean. Him and his family are regulars at our clean up events. Thank you to you and your family, my friend.

I am a 41 year resident of West Sacramento! West Sacramento is my home and is where I decided to raise my five children. I have lots of family here, including parents, brothers/sister, aunts/uncles, cousins, and nieces/nephews. I’m happily married to my wife Maria for almost 20 years. I love trying foods of all kinds, talking, and getting to know my neighbors and residents of West Sacramento. I love our schools and teachers and enjoy helping at my kid’s school. I love soccer and enjoy watching my kids compete. I enjoy playing almost any sport and like to go for long walks along our river.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I come from a large family of four brothers and one sister. I have five children, three girls and two boys.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have been a high school social science teacher for 22 years.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
“I Love Teryaki” and “La Favorita” and for sushi you can’t beat “Rouku Sushi”

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
41 years

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
A charming man that is no longer alive named Timothy who lived across my childhood home, who was the kindnest neighbor that woul share all of his friut from his trees and flowers from his garden.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to travel to the Fiji Islands

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My all time favorite was Highway To Heaven, Little House on the Prarie, and Three’s Company.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Practice the “Golden Rule” and keep your city clean.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would love to go on a cruise, maybe to Alaska in the spring.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
90’s country or 80’s ballads

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Roy’s Barbershop and Bryteway Market

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Dolly Parton, I would invite her to a Carne Asada BBQ and would tell her bring her guitar.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
All of my friendly nieghbors and the old streets that are so familiar to me

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Planning for retirement in about 10 years.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I don’t like clutter or messy yards.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Hawaii and Cabo San Lucas

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Favorite Month is June, I love the summer. I always look foward to Christmas and the best day on the calendar is May 31st.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A Carne Asada Torta.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My Wife and Kids inspire me, they are my reason for living.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
my wife’s perfume and guayabas (guavas)

Q: What is one business you would like to have in West Sacramento? (which we don’t have one already)
A billards club with many pool tables and darts where I would sell old fashion grilled union hamburgers with fries and drinks.
